After Losing Both His Parents, Six-Year-Old Finds Purpose In Making Others Smile

Losing a loved one is far from easy. Each person has his/her own way of grieving and what works for one may not work for the next. For six-year-old Jaden Hayes, his way of grieving in the aftermath of his parents' deaths is making national news. Hayes lost his father when he was just four years old, and recently discovered that his mother had died abruptly in her sleep.

Instead of being reclusive and falling into depression, Hayes decided to grab life by the horns and make others smile at the same time. In the wake of his loss, Hayes has taken to brightening the lives of others by hitting the streets of Savannah, GA,  approaching strangers with gifts.

Hayes told CBS News that he's "trying to make people smile." Frustrated by all the sadness he was seeing in the world, Hayes devised a plan which he shared with his aunt in early July to turn people's days around by offering them small toys. The impact of Hayes' selflessness has been enormous. Not only are individuals receptive to his kindness, but some are even moved to tears over his generous gesture.

For a six-year-old to turn his focus outward after the traumatic loss of his parents is both impressive and inspiring. Whether Hayes knows this or not, his giving is doing far more than merely making people smile. He continues to move the hearts of thousands as he fulfills his wish to brighten the days of strangers.

The heart broken smile.
