If you're shopping in Jaime Eaton's neighborhood grocery store, you might be startled when she approaches you and offers up her baby for sale. After all, it's not normal for a mother to openly (or otherwise) try to unload her newborn into the arms of a complete stranger. The truth of the situation, however, is that while her baby might look and feel like a living child, what she is selling you is not a real child at all. It's known as a reborn.
When Ms. Eaton purchased her own reborn for her daughter (real daughter), she was disappointed in what she received in the mail. She felt that if something were to be billed as "lifelike" it should really deliver on that promise. At that moment Jaime began on her mission to painstakingly handcraft babies that actually past the test.
Women spend over $300 for one of her reborn baby dolls. The attention, the love, and the feeling of being needed is just too powerful for her customers to pass up. She sees women come to her for a number of reasons. Be it that they are unable to give birth, their chance to give birth has passed, or that they just miss the feeling to waking up to a newborn every day. Her product is certainly unorthodox, but you can see the profound effect it has on these "mothers."
Of course, her passion isn't for everyone. Some people find it odd, weird, or disturbing for fully grown women to be walking around with babies that aren't real. Jaime understands this, but realizes that there are enough people who really crave the service she provides. She does this for them.
Could you put yourself in the shoes of some of these women and ever purchase something like this? Have you purchased something like this in the past? We'd love to know what you think down below.
